Okay when choosing a school be VERY CAREFUL! I can only use Ontario Canada as an example, as that is where I live, but you can follow the basics on how to check up on things..
Go to the website NPLEX. This is the examination board for both Canada and the United States, after you finish you degree you must write a board exam before you can be licence to practice, on this website there is a list of schools that you can attend. Make sure the school is accredided. Do not attend a school that says they are apart of the American Board for Drugless Practitioners, that board is crap and funds all the fradulent schools…
Here is Ontario you can only attend one Naturopathic School which is called the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. In Ontario Naturopthic Medicine and Practitioners are regualated, and if you use the title Doctor if you attend any other school but this one, you can be fined and put into jail.
Acupuncture here is also a 4 year program…. you used to be able to just go to acupunture school but last year the regualtions of that also changed. and you can look forward to other coutnries doing the same thing… I to want to do the acupunture program, however after im done my studies as an ND I am spending 2 years in College to get my Registered Practical Nurses Diploma, and then take the two year program from Registered Massage Theapry.. However with my medical background I am giving alot of credits and moved forward so will be done school in 2011… but to take Acupucture you need to be a nurse or a regesitered massage theapists or a chiropractor.
Herbal degrees I did mine online then I had to do 3,500 hours of volunteer work working along side a herbalist to be accrediated by the Ontario Herbalist Association..
also look to see what associations you can become apart of as you want it to be respectable…
The best place to study Alternative Medicine is in Europe… What I have seen on this forum from other Americans I would never want to practice there, as they seem to be all about drugs still. China is also great, they are really in tuned with natural medicine… no wonder why they LIFE LONGER then AMERICANS!!! lol
Best of luck but do tons of research!!
