Do The Chinese Consider Hong Kong To Be A Part Of China?
A Chinese man once looked confused when i asked him if i should visit Hong Kong in China. He said Hong Kong was not a part of China, but technically it is. Is it just a part of China politically?

When did you ask the question? Hong Kong was under British control until 1997.
Hong Kong is not part of mainland china but a “special administrative region” with some political autonomy so I guess it could be analogous to Puerto Rico being “part of the US.”
PR is a territory of the US and its people are US citizens, but it’s not part of the fifty states.
Hong Kong is locally administered, but Beijing has ultimate sovereignty over the territory. Its official status is a “Special Administrative Region”, which in theory means it can control its own political, economic, and legal affairs. In practice, however, Beijing has more influence than many would like it to have.
Even while Britain held the lease to Hong Kong it was always considered part of China.
Many Chinese look down on Hong Kong for cultural reasons having to do with working so closely with non-Chinese, however, if you ever went to Hong Kong, you were, for all intent and purpose, in China.
