How Different Is The Lifestyle In Hong Kong Compared To Guangzhou?

Published by David.Ge under GuangZhou

Hi there, I’m an American Chinese, born in California and been living here all my life. I’m 22, and just graduated from college. I wanted to study abroad in China but never had an opportune time when I was in school. I am now seriously considering teaching English in China so that I can experience the place that a part of my family grew up in, and to become more worldly. At the same time, I’m seeking adventure and self discovery, not to mention a way to pay off my student loans.
So I was wondering for those of you who have been to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, what kind of feel do these cities have? Are there many expatriates in both places? How is the nightlife in each? Where can I improve my cantonese speaking abilities best at? Is it much more affordable for a single apartment in Guangzhou?
Any information that you can provide about living in these two cities would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Do You Think Asian Cops Are Easygoing? Why Or Why Not?

Published by David.Ge under GuangZhou

My white neighbor is a good friend with this Japanese American cop who is married to a blonde hair, blue eye girl. They both go to high school football games and spend time watching sporting events together. I asked my neighbor to why he would make friends with a cop when they (cops) are the ones to spoil your day (writing tickets). My neighbor described this Asian cop, as a friendly and outgoing person, justifying this is the reason to be really good friends.
Going for a walk around my neighborhood, I spoke to that Asian cop just to ask him how his day was going. He was patrolling the area to see if anyone was speeding excessively. That one Asian cop did pull over these two blond hair, blue eye girls, about 19 years old, driving a red Toyota 4×4 pickup truck. He was very kind to give the blond female in the driver’s seat just a warning for traveling 39 MPH on a 30 MPH zone.

Trip To China: Should I Go To Shenzhen Or Guangzhou To Shop?

Published by David.Ge under GuangZhou

Hi,
I’ve decided to take my mom on a trip to China/Hong Kong.
I’m into electronics, shirts, suits.
My mom likes jewelery, clothes and handbags.
Basically, I’ve heard the following:
1) Hong Kong is the best place only for BRAND name electronics
2) Guangzhou is the best place for general shopping.
3) Shenzhen has some great places like LOU HU shopping center, DongMen district (for clothes and shoes) and “Sai Ge Electronic Mall” where all the electronic suppliers hang out.
We want get all the cheapest stuff out… so as far as I’m aware, China is a better option than HK.
The only question now is – SHENZHEN or GUANGZHOU?
Any suggestions?
