Where Is A Beautiful Place To Study Chinese?
Posted on | December 21, 2009 | 6 Comments
I want to be somewhere gorgeous with hiking and views and a relaxing vibe, and study Chinese more-or-less full time.
I need to escape the stresses of my work. I am burnt out. Gasping for breath.
I have one month, maybe more.
I am thinking of Lijiang, because it sounds like a beautiful place with a relaxed atmosphere. I found one school there, Shangri-La Learning Centre (slcchina.com) but I can’t find any opinions on it.
I know basically no Chinese — I need to start right at a beginner level.
When I lived in Guatemala I was once able to study Spanish in a relaxed little town on the edge of Lake Atitlan, an amazing, inspiring lake surrounded by volcanoes, and would like to find something along that lines in China. I don’t want to stay in a 4-star hotel and spend a lot of money — I much prefer backpacker trails and cheap eats and adventures galore.I’m 24, and wouldn’t mind meeting other young people along the way.
Thanks in advance,
Cooked Brain in Beijing

It might be hard to find Mandarin courses in small country towns…But have you considered Dalian? Not a small city but so pleasant and relaxed there. The weather is quite mild compared to other places in Liaoning. It has a permanent vacation feel, people are friendly, beautiful beaches not far…the Dalian University of Foreign Languages has Mandarin courses and has a great reputation so a lot of students and young people all over the place. You can get there on the very cheap by train for 59Y, hard seat of course, but it is a bargain…
Xiamen too is a great place to study, a bit warmer than Dalian in winter. Lots of university students, good language university as well. I would say that both Dalian and Xiamen are great university towns, lots of young people speak relatively good English, so it is perfect for language exchange…

The most beautiful place is in yunnan lijiang.Besides, there is Guilin in guangxi. In my opinion,if you want to study chinese.Guilin has many university and many students.they like to study english as well.you can exchange languange there. There are many young people traveling to Guilin too.
I’m thinking that i can open a chinese-english studying bar for foreign backpackers ,gather the univeristy students who want to improve english and like to teach freigner to study chinese.A good idea
in guilin,if you dont want to stay one month in guilin.you can rent a room there.about USD30 to USD70 per month.
i am an exp of guilin.want more information send me email;)
