When I read some questions, I wonder in this day and age of so much information at a click of a mouse, why some people cannot find answers to the simplest questions by themselves. I’m not sure what it is, maybe intellectual laziness.
Even my kids who are so computer-savvy look at me with a blank look when I tell them to look for an answer in the dictionary…yeah, that big thick thing made of paper, next to the other useless things on the bookshelf…
But I guess that’s why we enjoy this section, to learn, exchange, have fun…and sometimes make fun of others, nicely…

They are not retarded actually, they may sound like a fool, but different people knows different things and everybody bound to learn. They are many people in this world thats do not know about China. The best thing about them is that they are not ashamed of being naive to all things China and they are there to learn. This is a good thing about them, better than those who doesn’t know much about China and act as if the person know a lot of it. I had heard people saying that Singapore is a part of China and insist on this theory, even though this is totally untrue. So they are not retarded, they are just here to learn. So forgive and forget them, thats the best.

Because learning is a process……
If everyone knew the answer to there questions, there would be no problems in the world.
Not everything about the world can be taught in school.
Plus you forget, that people as young as 13 are allowed to use yahoo answers, and under 13 if there parents agree.
Also out of habit, people don’t tend to research for stuff, or they simply don’t know how to go about it correctly.
I’m sure as a kid you and me asked some retarded questions at times.
But don’t worry some even answer with retarded answers that have nothing to do with the question.

From my observation generally there are three groups of people at YA. First group is the mature group who are into serious questions and answers and yes many of them are matured adults. The 2nd group is those who come to YA for some relaxation. The sometimes ask/answer serious questions and sometimes light but sensible questions. I would assume most of them are young adults. The 3rd group is those who come to YA just for the fun of it. They are not into serious answers / questions. They like to post “ridiculous and stupid” questions and they expect to receive the same kind of answers. This group consists mainly young adults and teenagers.
I would say, those examples you mentioned above are mostly from the 2nd group. Trust me, those questions are not “retarded” . Just go check out those questions in Malaysia section, they are many times more “retarded” than those you mentioned.
Don’t take this too seriously. If you think those questions are retarded, just ignore them, as simple as that. I am a regular at Malaysia section but i never ever answer those “stupid” questions posted there. I always ask/answer serious / semi-serious or informative questions/answers.

Well, I was tired of answering dumb questions.
But I realize that by simply asking the question they are at least admitting their ignorance and pursuing knowledge which should be encouraged.
However, there are certain type of questions that are annoying. But I will try my best to eradicate ignorance.

Don’t take it too personally. If you think the questions are retarded, you should go to the pregnant section. 14 year old girls asking if they are pregnant after being kissed by a 13 year old boy.

I’m guessing your not a teacher or plan to be one. If I were you, I wouldn’t have children….I’m a bit hesitant on how you’d answer your child when they ask a “retarded” question to you.

When i was in beijing…. i asked those locals living there from executives to beggers where’s the famous yellow river is… 99% of their answer is “I DONT KNOW or NOT SURE!” I really think they have limited knowleage of their own country… so sad….
