From the mainstream media, and some posts by this forum, one got impression that China has conducted an apartheid policy like that of USA and South Africa in 1950s and before: such as a separate eating in a restaurant, a separate drinking from a water fountain, a separate rest room, the separate schools, the separate movies, etc.
Are all these true in China ?

I will always remember this during sch days every morning my sch mates&i had to say the Singapore’s pledge – (phrase) “….regardless race, language or religion….” But as soon as i finished my studies my friends and i (non-chinese) find it hard to get a permanent job here even with our diploma certs. Most job interviews/job agencies/job requirements they want “Billingual/Mandarin Speaking/Chinese only” Its sad!!!!! We are brought up that Singapore is a multi racional country, “regardless of race, language or religion.” Singapore is not a chinese/China country but why the job requirement here is COLOURED??? Im sure many non Singaporeans out there feel the same way…you can even see it on the Jobs classified newspaper straits times. Majority office jobs here are flooded by chinese especially town area/shenton way…u name it.

I saw some of the photos during the Mao’s Cultural Revolution. I saw everyone smiling, big green rice fields, a prosperous and happy China at the time of Mao.
But I see lot of poverty today in China. What are you doing to regain the lost glory?

Hi, I have an interview tomorrow, and one significant reason I received this interview 2 days after resume submission is because I have this “Guanxi” thing my Dad wanted me to add on my resume. However I must admit that I’m not too keen on this concept since I spent most of my schooling here in the states.
How do I explain this guanxi thing to my prospect employer? (Father said he works for the NDRC of China)
thanks

For an individual who has limited access to native speakers or teachers, what is the best available (or most suitable) home study method for learning to speak and read Mandarin Chinese?
For our purposes, let us assume that cost is not a factor, or only secondary to effectiveness.
Thanks!

I am wondering both for graduate school options and career options. I have no professional business background except for a little business on the side, but I want to work in China and I speak the language fluently.
As for Grad. schools, I realize for an MBA it is best to wait a few years, but I want to know what other options are out there?
I am only asking in general as I realize you don’t know my interests.

I’m basically black but have a really mixed background so i’m kind of mixed raced colour. I have the oppertunity to go to China and study for a year with a full scholarship. The government will pay for it and i will supposedly be taught Chinese from scratch. I saw studying in China as a great oppertunity.
The problem is i have some Chinese friends and they’re mothers + Grandparents act like black stereotypes are scientific evidence. So i am worried about racism towards black people in China since i plan to spend a year there studying.
Is it a good idea to go to China and study for a year or not?
Will people keep away from me because i’m black?

China for a visit, I feel a strange radiation that I never feel when I’m outside of China and I feel myself turning Chinese while I’m in China and turning un-Chinese when I’m out of China.
